Manual gear shifter housing removal installation on 1994-1998 Saab 900 and 1999-2002 Saab 9-3. I removed the housing to fit a short shifter.

The installation is the reverse of removal. The shifter alignment procedure must be performed after re-installation.

Tools:

13 mm socket: linkage clamp;
10 mm socket: centre console and shifter housing;
long socket extension;
ratchet handle;
Torx T25 screwdriver;
L-shaped 3 mm Allen key: gearbox lock.

	17.06.2007 Passenger side Undo the screws and remove the footwell panel on the passenger side.		17.06.2007 Driver side Remove the footwell panel on the driver side - two more Torx screws.
	17.06.2007 ACC and switches Push the climate control panel and switches out from behind. Disconnect the wires.		17.06.2007 Tabs Release the tabs by pressing on the locking pin in the centre, and pull them out.
	17.06.2007 Ash tray Remove the ash tray in the back of the console and unscrew a Torx screw in the middle.		17.06.2007 Nuts Undo two 10 mm nuts holding the console to the floor.
	17.06.2007 Switches Pop the window switch block, disconnect the harness and move it away.		17.06.2007 Ignition cover Gently pry out the cover over the ignition lock. The 9-3 has a small circuit in it. Pop the big cover.
	17.06.2007 Ignition cover Undo the screws holding the console to the gearshift housing.		17.06.2007 Light switch Pop the light switch and disconnect its wires.
	17.06.2007 Console removed List the rear half of the console, then the front half. Remove the air duct.		17.06.2007 4th gear Insert the key and move the shifter into 4th gear.
	17.06.2007 Gearbox lock Under the hood, pull the plug out of the gearbox locking hole and insert a long 3 mm Allen key to lock the transmission in 4th gear.		17.06.2007 Linkage nut Slacken the 13 mm nut on the linkage rod and move the shifter into 3rd gear position to pull the rod out of the linkage.
	17.06.2007 Housing bolts Undo the four 10 mm bolts holding the housing to the floor.		17.06.2007 Ignition harness Turn the housing onto its side and disconnect the ignition harness.
	17.06.2007 Removed Remove the housing from the car.		17.06.2007 Shifter housing The gearshift housing on the ground.
