Dashboard and instrument cluster removal on a 1999 Saab 9-5. One of the bulbs illuminating the speedometer went out, and I needed to replace it.

The only tool needed for the dash removal is a Torx T25 screwdriver from the toolbox in the trunk.

Turn the steering wheel to the left and undo the screw in the steering column cover.

Undo another screw on the right of the steering wheel, and then a third at the bottom of the cover.

Pull the two halves of the cover off.

Unlatch the turn signal stalk. Unplug the connector and remove the stalk.

Move to the right side and remove the windshield wiper stalk.

Insert the stereo removal tool (or knitting needles, or whatever you have) and pull the stereo out.

Push the SID out from behind and unplug the connector. Do the same with the climate control panel.

Pull the stereo mounting cage and detach the wires from the back of it.

Remove the hazard light switch.

Undo four screws holding the dash panel.

Move over to the left side and remove all the switches - they just pop out.

Undo two more screws in the headlight switch socket.

Remove the panel by carefully prying it out along the perimeter.

Unscrew the instrument cluster.

Pull the cluster out and disconnect the wires.

The back cover of the instrument cluster is held by eight Phillips screws.

Take the cover off, then unplug the ribbon cable on the top of the unit.

Swing the upper circuit board down, and you get to the light bulbs. They are all labeled and easy to locate.

Installation is the reverse of removal, naturally.
